Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez has finally revealed her new baby!
The beauty queen, who gave birth to Robert Joaquin on August 25, shared her water birth journey in a series of posts on Instagram.
She began by explaining that the birth had happened days earlier than her due date. “We were in the dining room playing board games after dinner when I went up to shower,” she said. “I noticed a small chunk of blood come out, then called midwife Allen who then checked that I was 3cm dilated.”
Rodriguez then started to describe the difficulty of her contractions as the night wore on, recalling back-breaking pain and a burning feeling. “It honestly felt like I partied all night then ran a marathon right after while having period cramps,” she wrote. “I could feel the end of it all coming when the contractions got closer together, truly testing my mental and physical strength.”
After 3 and a half hours of labor, at 4:02, she finally gave birth to her first child.
“I’ll never forget how the pain suddenly disappeared when his head came out,” she captioned a photo of her pregnant self. “I was shocked there was no more contractions, no more fire, no pain. And there was a tiny little human floating in the water. This must be the proudest moment of my life.”
The 29-year-old cited Maxine Collins and Coleen Garcia as fellow mothers who lent their help and advice, with Garcia even shipping her birthing pool from Manila to Davao. “She also gave me some words of encouragement and after I delivered she shared with me some of her story,” she wrote.
Rodriguez also posted her water birth experience in a vlog on her Youtube channel.
Rodriguez first announced her pregnancy with boyfriend Niño Barbers in August, revealing that they had been keeping it secret for months. The pair have been living in Siargao for the past two years.
Rodriguez formerly represented the Philippines in Miss World 2018 and Miss Intercontinental 2017, where she placed as first runner-up in the latter.
