Netflix to spill new secrets in its latest documentary on Britney Spears

Months after the documentary Framing Britney Spears shook the world, and helped advance the #FreeBritney campaign, Netflix dropped the trailer of its upcoming documentary on the pop princess.

The streaming giant’s take on the American icon will not feature traumatizing photos, unlike its predecessors. Erin Lee Carr (Mommy Dead and Dearest and I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth Vs. Michelle Carter) and journalist Jenny Eliscu will “delve deep into the tangled history of the conservatorship” while speaking to former employees, attorneys, and more in the documentary.

“I specifically made the creative decision that we were not going to utilize the same imagery that she has said before is traumatizing,” Carr told the Los Angeles Times. “The incidents that happened in 2007 during one of the episodes at the hospital – you’re never going to see those.”

So what should fans expect from the project? It will feature “years-long investigative work, exclusive interviews, and new documents,” including leaked text messages, a voicemail, and a “confidential” report sent by someone close to the conservatorship.

“I just want my life back,” Spears could be heard in the intro. “I have worked my whole life,” she said. “I don’t owe these people anything.”

Coincidentally (or not), the upcoming Netflix documentary will be released on Tuesday, September 28, a day ahead of Britney’s next court hearing. This hearing could determine whether the performer’s father, Jamie Spears, will be removed as her legal guardian.
Given that Spears is currently on a high because of recent engagement, let’s hope this docu from Netflix won’t upset Spears further. She lashed out on The New York Times produced project months ago. In case you’re hyped up for it, you can watch the full trailer here.
