Actress Olivia Wilde has finally broken her silence on her relationship with Harry Styles.
In a new interview with Vogue, the Booksmart director something to say to those who scrutinized the age gap in their relationship. For reference, Wilde is 37 and Styles is 27. The decade-long gap was a hot topic in the tabloids for a number of weeks.
“It’s obviously really tempting to correct a false narrative,” Wilde said. “But I think what you realize is that when you’re really happy, it doesn’t matter what strangers think about you. All that matters to you is what’s real, and what you love, and who you love.”
“In the past 10 years, as a society, we have placed so much more value on the opinion of strangers rather than the people closest to us,” she added. “[But] I’m happier than I’ve ever been. And I’m healthier than I’ve ever been, and it’s just wonderful to feel that.”
Throughout the interview, the mother of two avoided naming Styles as her new beau and instead referred to him as a “friend” who visited her parents’ home with her in D.C. and gave her a “beaded Éliou necklace” with her children’s names on it.
The couple was first revealed to be dating around January, after working together last year on the set of Don’t Worry Darling, a film that Wilde directed and Styles stars in.
Since then, they’ve often been pictured hanging out in cities all over the country and taking vacations together abroad. Wilde, particularly, has been spotted at a number of Styles’ concerts.
Also present at the outings are Otis, 7, and Daisy, 5, the two children she shares with ex-fiancé and Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis.
