Pia Wurtzbach Lends Earrings Worn In Miss Universe 2015 To Rabiya Mateo

Pia Wurtzbach Lends Earrings Worn In Miss Universe 2015 To Rabiya Mateo

Rabiya Mateo is bringing an “agimat” to the Miss Universe 2020 pageant! During a virtual press conference, Rabiya mentioned that she borrowed something from Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach as a symbol of good luck.

“This is a funny story po, kasi parang may hula na sabi, ‘If you really want to win, dapat manghingi ka ng gamit from the former Miss Universe [winners.] Like kay Miss Pia, kay Catriona [Gray], Gloria [Diaz], or Margie [Moran].”

The 24-year-old beauty queen said that she didn’t hesitate to talk to Pia, who’s already expressed her support for Rabiya on various occasions. “Ako talaga hindi na nahiya. Nag-message ako kay Pia.. I mean, there’s nothing wrong about it, you know. I just want to make sure to grab that chance. At least wala akong pinalagpas na pagkakataon,” she said.

Gifts and advice

Rabiya said that Pia responded kindly when she messaged her. “[Pia’s] so kind. Pinahiram niya sa akin ‘yung earrings na ginamit niya during Miss Universe. So parang ‘yun ‘yung agimat na dala-dala ko ngayon.

Aside from lending her earrings, Pia also gave the Ilongga beauty queen advice on how to keep her inner peace before the pageant. “She told me not to open my social media anymore. Just post something and then close it right away. Because you don’t want to disturb your inner peace. It’s very important. The competition, it’s a mental game and if you really want to win, you really need to protect that peace,” Rabiya said.

Pia previously shared about reaching out to Rabiya prior to her departure for the US to give a care package containing some pageant essentials. She also hinted at giving Miss Universe Philippines 2020 “a few good luck charms”—one of which seems to be the earrings Rabiya brought with her.

Watch and cheer for Rabiya by tuning in to the live broadcast of the Miss Universe 2020 pageant on the A2Z Channel on May 16, 2021 (May 17, 8 A.M. in the Philippines.)
