Richard Yap Refuses DNA Test for ‘Abandoned’ Son

Famous actor and Cebu City north district congressional aspirant Richard Yap has recently refused to undertake a DNA test for a man who is claiming to be his “abandoned” son.

According to Yap, the allegation is far from the truth. “I think it is for our lawyers to talk about. If I accept (the challenge), that means that we are guilty or we are thinking that there is a chance, but there is really none. Why should I agree to what they want?” He stated. The 54-year-old also believed the claims to be politically motivated.

The allegations in question arose last Thursday, when Joshua Paolo Jensen, a 24-year-old Cavite resident, filed a petition for compulsory recognition against Yap before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office. He claimed that Yap was his biological father and that the former ABS-CBN star had “abandoned” him and his mother while she was pregnant.

Mga 12 years old nakita ko po siya sa Chowking commercial. Sabi ng mama ko yan ang tatay mo. Nagulat ako, pinuntahan ko din siya sa ABS-CBN pero hindi siya nagpakita. Nagtatago po siya. Laging out of town po,” Jensen shared.

(I was around 12 years old when I saw him in a Chowking commercial. My mom said that he was my father. I was surprised and I went to see him at ABS-CBN, but he did not show himself. He was just hiding. I was always told that he was out of town.)

“Richard Yap, I hope you acknowledge me as your child,” Jensen said. “I’ve long been running after you until I reached Cebu. My mother’s life was ruined because you left her and her child. That’s me. How can your aim to serve Cebuanos be real when you can’t even stand up for your own child? I’m all grown up now. Let’s face each other and have a DNA test done.”
