After less than a year of dating, JoJo Siwa has confirmed that she and Kylie Prew has split following break-up rumors which made the rounds last month.
On the This is Paris podcast, the 18-year-old Dancing With the Stars contestant confirmed to Paris Hilton that she and Prew have indeed broken up, but remain friends.
“I have yet to talk about this officially, publicly, but we broke up,” Siwa told Hilton. “But she is literally still my best friend. I talked to her yesterday, she got a new puppy. She’s awesome. She’s having the time of her life, I’m having the time of her life.”
“I’m really lucky that I didn’t lose her completely because, you know, even though relationships end, friendships don’t have to end,” she continued.
Siwa also explained that their split was a case of “right person, wrong time,” with her hectic schedule at such a young age getting in the way of their relationship.
“Nothing bad happened. It just is the definition of a cheesy saying of ‘right person, wrong time,’ and I hate cheesy sayings, but they’re true,” said Siwa. “We’re both so young–she’s 17, I’m 18, and we are literally best friends and I would take a bullet for her, and I know she would do the same for me. We just–literally, right person, wrong time.”
Rumor mills first speculated the split after Siwa wrote a cryptic Instagram post that alluded to her work and personal life as being “overwhelmed” and “overloaded,” followed by enlightening reflections.
“This has been a WEEK. My brain has never been so overwhelmed/overloaded with not only work but also personal life,” started Siwa’s caption.
She added: “This week of my life has taught me SO much. Live in the moment. Smile however you can. Whatever it takes to be happy, do it. My brain is dead, my knees are bruised, and my puppy is cute. That’s what is coming to my mind right now!”
“Even though this week has been one of the hardest in my life for so many different reasons, it’s also been one of the best.”
Sources obtained by US Magazine also confirmed that Prew has stopped attending the show, with some Dancing With the Stars crew and cast members being aware of the split.
Siwa and Prew first started dating in January after the “Kid in a Candy Store” singer came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community.
