Hollywood star Rob Schneider took to Instagram to pay tribute to his Filipina mother Pilar Monroe Schneider, who recently passed away.
“My Mother, Pilar Monroe Schneider passed away peacefully after spending a perfect Sunday evening family dinner surrounded with loved ones at her side; her daughter April, son in-law Matt, granddaughter Crystal and her great grandchildren,” he announced.
Schneider also recalled the life of Pilar, who was a World War II survivor from the Philippines who survived by ‘sewing pajamas from bed sheets’ in able to trade for food.
“There was never enough food during the war and her stomach bothered her for her nearly 92 years. The family survived because of Pilar and her ingenuity,” the actor shared.
A graduate of University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Pilar was also able to pay for her education when she and her sister found money in a cave after a Japanese buried it. She then moved to the US during the 1950s and earned her master’s degree as a reading specialist and was “elected to the School board in Pacifica California getting more votes than Bill Clinton.”
“Pilar became a beloved teacher for 3 decades and three generations of children who would be grateful that years later she remembered every one of their names.”
Pilar will be remembered in her hometown Pacifica, California for her efforts in improving music education in their city.
“Pilar spoke often of joining her beloved husband of 39 years, my lovely father Marvin Schneider. That day has come for them to be together. I am proud to be able to say that I am the son of Pilar Monroe Schneider,” he wrote.
