Sheryn Regis and her daughter Sweety express how proud they are of each other
Sheryn Regis‘ daughter, Sweety Echiverri, threaded the path out of the closet as bisexual. Echiverri cracked the news to Regis via video message during an episode of ABS-CBN’s “Magandang Buhay” on Monday, April 24, 2023.
In a reminiscent moment for Echiverri, she recalls that she used to struggle over her sexual grounding at the time her mother came out as a lesbian. She shares, “Ang initial reaction ko po when my mom came out, at first, I was very surprised kasi my mom never really showed any signs that she was in a closet. And around that time, I was also confused about my sexuality and my self-identity. I was a teenager when she first came out to me.”
The 20-year-old also reveals that Regis’ decision to come out had fueled her to do the same. In an affirming message that made Regis all the more emotional, Echiverri says, “I am so proud of how supportive and how amazing and how representative you are of the LGBTQ community. And good luck to you and your future concerts.”
In return, the OPM singer cannot help but profess her appreciation for having an ever-understanding daughter. “When she said that she really accepted me and it doesn’t make me less of a person and a mom to her—when I opened up everything about myself—I am so proud of her for having an open mind para sa lahat ng mga gender. Kung ano man ang sitwasyon ng buhay, naiintindihan niya sa murang edad,” Regis states.
Regis also emphasizes her all-out acceptance, even reinstating that Earl Echiverri—Sweety’s father and Regis’ former husband, has nothing but support for whatever their daughter wishes to categorize as.

Sheryn Regis on her quest as an LGBTQIA+ symbol
In 2021, Regis publicized her sexuality as a lesbian, simultaneously announcing her romance with online content creator Mel de Guia. In the succeeding year, the power belter infused the call for respect into her craft by collaborating with JMRTN– lead vocalist of ALIW Awards’ Hall of Fame REtroSPECT.
The collaboration bred out “Respeto,”a song that champions unity among different cultural, religious, social, and gender demographics. “Respeto” is up for streaming on various music platforms Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Deezer.
