“We are relaying sorrowful and heartbreaking news,” the agency said. “The bereaved family is currently very heartbroken by the sudden mournful news.”

While the cause of death was not disclosed, the agency did ask the public to “refrain from making up rumors or speculative reports so that the bereaved family, who are in shock and grief-stricken, can reverently commemorate the deceased.”

“Please wish for Kim Mi Soo to rest in peace, and once again, we offer our deepest condolences to the deceased,” they added. Her wake will reportedly be held at Taeneung Sungsim Funeral Service.

Kim has taken part in a number of dramas over the years, gaining recognition for her roles in “The School Nurse Files,” “Yumi’s Cells,” and “Hi Bye, Mama!” She was also present in films like “Lipstick Revolution”, “Memories”, and “Kyungmi’s World.”

Her most recent project was the controversial drama Snowdrop“, wherein she played a student activist in the tumultuous time period of 1980s South Korea. Her character, Yeo Jeong-min, is a dorm-mate to Eun Young-ro, the drama’s main lead, played by BLACKPINK’s Jisoo.

Though the drama first aired on December 18, it came under fire even before the first episode was released due to its supposed hand in historical revisionism. As of now, a petition to cancel the series has garnered more than 300,000 signatures.
