When it comes to chocolatiers, there’s always one name that comes to everyone’s minds: the iconic Willy Wonka. Whether you were enchanted by Johnny Depp’s version or you remain loyal to Gene Wilder, you’ll be in for a special treat.
A new Wonka is coming to the big screens soon. The internet’s boyfriend/ fashion icon Timothée Chalamet just revealed the first look of himself as the young inventor and chocolate factory genius.
“Verified. The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last …🏭WONKA🍫,” the 25-year old heartthrob captioned in his post.
The upcoming movie will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures before opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory. Chalamet is expected to showcase his singing and dancing skills for the first time in the prequel film. Paul King, who directed both Paddington movies is at the helm of the project.
The project marks the third time Roald Dahl’s iconic character will be adapted to the silver screen. He was derived from 1964 children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and its 1972 sequel Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. The original tale will take place way before the events of the iconic films, so sadly Charlie Bucket won’t be part of the story.
And guess what? Chalamet’s fresh take on the chocolatier isn’t the only Dahl Hollywood project in the works. Academy award-winning filmmaker of Jojo Rabbit fame, Taika Waititi, is working on a pair of animated series for Netflix, which acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company in September this year. As per reports, one series will be centered on the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and another will be based on the Oompa Loompa workers.
Can’t wait to see Chalamet break out his singing and acting chops? Well, you and the rest of the world will have to wait until March 2023. Let’s hope cinemas in the country will be open by then.
