What’s all this buzz about Penn Badgley and Cardi B? The unlikely duo seemed to have built a friendship on the internet, and fans are here for it.
Season 3 of Netflix’s YOU just premiered, so we can assume it’s been a busy week for Badgley. And it just so happens that footage from the show’s first season resurfaced on Twitter.
The tweet that started it all
In the 2019 interview, he praised the rapper for her social media presence. “I really appreciate people who have this sort of totally second-nature relationship with [social media],” he said. “It’s this incredibly nuanced place to be, and despite what many might judge as ‘antics,’ she has an incredibly authentic relationship, and that’s why people like her so much.”
Naturally, the clip quickly circulated online and got to Cardi B, herself. She reacted accordingly and tweeted, “OOOOMMFFFGGGGGG HE KNOWS ME!!! OMMMGGG!!!!!! Yoooo like I’m famous famous.” There was no shortage of gasping face emoji in the tweet as she expressed her enthusiasm.
The feelings are mutual
Badgley was not about to leave her on read after that interaction, so he responded with a brief, “I-.” It wasn’t much, but it could imply that the YOU actor was simply awestruck she noticed him back. Great to know the feelings are mutual.
Since their small talk, the friendship might have escalated. If you haven’t already noticed, they have now swapped Twitter avatars. Badgley was the first to change his icon to a picture of the blue-haired “Bodak Yellow” singer. The same picture was applied to the official YOU Netflix Twitter account. Cardi B later followed suit and used a screenshot of him from the series.
Now that the streaming platform confirmed there’s a Season 4 to look forward to, fans can’t help but wonder if this was all for publicity. What if Cardi B is making an appearance in the next series? Either way, the whole exchange was wholesome.
