The two broke up after the singer’s alleged altercation with Gigi’s mother, Yolanda.
After an on-off relationship that lasted for almost six years, Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have now broken up, moments after reports made the rounds on Thursday alleging the singer had a heated dispute with Gigi’s mother, Yolanda, and that he “struck” her, which Malik “adamantly” refuted.
According to several sources exclusively speaking to PEOPLE, Malik, 28, and Hadid, 26, are “not together right now” but have been amicably talking to figure out how to take care of their child, one-year-old Khai, despite splitting.
Meanwhile, statements from other sources as reported by Entertainment Tonight also claim that the two called it quits because the supermodel’s mom Yolanda kept showing up unannounced and uninvited to their home and was “getting in the middle of things, leading to some tension which Malik tried to resolve with his partner.
ET also reported that a disagreement between Zayn and Yolanda “turned hostile,” with the latter telling people that Zayn “struck” her and that she’s “extremely upset.” TMZ also reported that Yolanda has filed four charges of harassment against Malik.
In a statement sent to ET, Malik denied the allegation. “”I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details,” his statement read. “And I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private.”
Malik also posted a statement on Twitter that insisted on those involved to resolve the matter in private.
Responding to the four counts of harassment charged against him, Malik pled no contest.
A rep for Gigi released a brief statement following news of Zayn and Yolanda’s alleged dispute: “Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time.”
Malik and Hadid were first hit by rumors of a romantic relationship in 2015, with the model’s appearance in Malik’s music video “Pillowtalk“ seemingly confirming their link. After two years, the two broke up in 2018 but got back together not long after. Their second split came in August 2019, with Hadid reportedly moving onto Bachelorette star Tyler Cameron. The fling was short-lived, though, and she was seen back in Malik’s arms again in January 2020. On the next Valentine’s Day, the two confirmed that they have rekindled their romance.
The former lovers share 13-month-old Baby Khai, who had a birthday bash last September.
