Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Reportedly End Six-Year Relationship

Oh no, is it really over for “Miss Americana” and “London Boy?”

Swifties have woken up to reports that international singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and “Boy Erased” actor Joe Alwyn have ended their six-year relationship, U.S. media Entertainment Tonight reported on Sunday, April 9, 2023.

The news has rattled the online world following ET’s revelation that the couple had already called it quits a few weeks ago. In the words of the entertainment outlet, it happened willfully and “it was not dramatic.”

“The relationship had just run its course. It’s why [Alwyn] hasn’t been spotted at any shows,” ET reports, pertaining to a no-show British ex-boyfriend at the Eras Tour concerts.

Other media outlets in the U.S., including People Magazine, have also attested to the news, elaborating that a reliable source close to the couple had substantiated the breakup rumors.

The news was met with wild reactions, especially from Swift’s avid supporters, Swifties, who have been putting up a series of hashtags on Twitter early in the morning. “THEY BROKE UP,” “The 1,” “WE LOVE YOU TAYLOR” and many other keyword-relevant references have filled the Philippine trends list like a brigade.

However, while the news is quick to spread across the internet, Swift and Alwyn have remained silent and are yet to release statements over the issue.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Go Down In Flames

In a report released by the DailyMail, the relationship started dwindling after the pandemic. Swift has claimed another shot at the spotlight by releasing her acclaimed 2022 “Midnights” album and announcing the “Eras Tour.” Unfortunately, Swift’s career trajectory and the abrupt changes did not sit entirely well on how the couple would work their love out.

DailyMail’s reliable source states, “It was easier during the pandemic when it was just the two of them, but once things returned to normal, Taylor Swift the superstar emerged, and their differences were even more apparent.”

“They really made a go of it and tried everything they could but ultimately were unable to save the relationship,” the source adds.

The differences in priorities, if such claims were true, are the reasons for the fallout. While Swift makes her own name, Alwyn, on the other hand, struggled to keep up.  As the source elaborates, “It’s been hard for Joe trying to make it in Hollywood and not quite becoming leading man material while dating one of the most famous women in the world over the last six years.”

Lover: Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s Relationship Throughout the Years

Swift and Alwyn started dating in 2016. With most parts of their relationship anchored on feel-good revelry and happy-ending dreams, the news has then shocked and disoriented Swift’s massive fanbase. More than ever, many are left bargaining for the truth since not long ago, the relationship was reported to be faring well.

Swift’s incorporation of her feelings into music, including the 2017 “Reputation” track “Gorgeous,” serves as an attestation of admiration for his “angel boyfriend of one year.”

Beyond that, Swift also collaborated with Alwyn, who goes by the pseudonym William Bowery, in writing some of the tracks for the 2020 albums, “Folklore,” and “Evermore.” The ensuing year had then seen Alwyn bagging a Grammy for his commendable contributions to Swift’s discography. Just as much, Swift’s “Folklore” landed rightfully as the “Album of the Year.”

Under the same pen name, Alwyn was also credited for its participation in writing “Sweet Nothing” from the songstress’s 2022  album, “Midnights.”

Over the years, rumors of engagement have come and gone, but Alwyn kept his cards close to his chest every single time. In an interview with WSJ Magazine in April 2022, the actor humorously says, “If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins.”

He adds, “I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t not say.”

In an interview with The Guardian in 2019, Swift has also deviated engagement topics. When asked about it, the singer counters: “I’ve learned that if I do, people think it’s up for discussion, and our relationship isn’t up for discussion.”

“If you and I were having a glass of wine right now, we’d be talking about it– but’ it’s just that it goes out into the world. That’s where the boundary is, and that’s where my life has become manageable,”she adds.

The grammy-award winning singer is currently on her American leg of the “Eras Tour.” Swift is expected to perform for three consecutive nights in Tampa, Florida from April 13-15. Alwyn, on the other hand, lands casting in Yorgos Lanthimos film “And” alongside heavy Hollywood celebrities, such as Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, and Hong Chau.
