Star-Studded “Ten Little Mistresses” Is The First Filipino Amazon Original Movie

“Ten Little Mistresses” is directed by Jun Robles Lana.

On February 15, 2023, the very first Filipino Amazon Original movie will premiere on Prime Video. The film, “Ten Little Mistresses” (Sampung Mga Kerida), is directed by Jun Robles Lana. It stars several of the biggest names in local showbiz: John Arcilla is the man with 10 mistresses, Eugene Domingo is his mayordoma and Donna Cariaga is her second-in-command; Carmi Martin, Pokwang, Agot Isidro, Kris Bernal, Arci Muñoz, Sharlene San Pedro, Adrianna So, Kate Alejandrino, Iana Bernardez, and Christian Bables star as the 10 little mistresses.

The movie opens with a musical number led by Eugene Domingo’s Lilith, right before we’re introduced to the 10 little mistresses. They have all come to celebrate the birthday of John Arcilla’s Don Valentin. By that evening, the women are thrilled as Valentin showers them with expensive gifts, including land titles, cars and gold bars. But at the height of the celebrations, Don Valentin falls to his death after swallowing a handful of pills.

Unable to get the morgue or police to their location before the next day, the characters all try to figure out who murdered Valentin. Was it a vengeful mistress or Valentin’s jealous brother? Could it have been one of the many members of his house staff or was it just an innocent mistake?

From the get-go, you already know that the cast of “Ten Little Mistresses” is a great one—and it shows. The film is full of comedic slaps and genuine moments that only a cast of this caliber can pull off with such a full room. But the real thrill of the film comes from the ingenuity of the plot.

The question of “Who murdered Don Valentin?” isn’t the only question asked. Hours after his death, someone claims responsibility for it. But the scenes that follow prove that there are more layers to peel, that there’s so much more to Valentin and his mistresses than meet the eye.

But on top of the comedy and murder mystery, “Ten Little Mistresses” shows heart. There are beautiful moments in between the punchlines and unraveling clues that dare viewers to answer: Is love really this shallow? Why would a woman put up with an arrangement like this? Why did Valentin’s wife stay with him? Can money really control everything? Can you love someone who is—for all intents and purposes—unavailable?

“Ten Little Mistresses” isn’t the heart-wrenching film that most people might have picked to be the first Filipino Amazon Original movie. It won’t make you think about climate change and politics and the state of public education. But it is, from start to finish, a show that only Filipinos can put together.

“Ten Little Mistresses” premieres on Prime Video on February 25, 2023.
