Its first public viewing during last August CinemaCon was behind closed curtains, but now, it’s finally upon us all — the trailer for the highly-anticipated The Matrix Resurrections has finally been revealed by Warner Bros. and we seem to have gotten more questions than answers.

The cyberpunk reboot-slash-sequel of sorts sees the reunion of Keanu Reeves’ Neo (who know looks closer to John Wick than himself in the previous films) and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity, both of whom seem to have forgotten the events of the first three films and have returned into a simulated digital reality where robots reign supreme.

Plot-wise, it’s still a struggle to stitch the different points and events of the trailer together. Has Neo given in to the blissful ignorance that the virtual world provides, hence the blue pill medication? Is Yahya-Abdul Mateen II’s red-pill-dealing character supposed to follow the style of Morpheus? And does Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff’s roles really intend to help Neo remember his life, or lure him into something sinister?

We may be stumped for answers after watching the trailer, but the upside was being able to stare at every minute detail of the CGI-heavy fight scenes — needless to say, it’s a large leap from the previous films’ production value from almost two decades back.
