Nicolas Cage is portraying Superman in “The Flash!”
Director Andy Muschietti has confirmed that Nicolas Cage will portray Superman in “The Flash.”
Nicolas’s appearance as the “Man of Steel” comes 25 years after the cancellation of the ill-fated project “Superman Lives.”
In an interview with Esquire Middle East, Muschietti expressed his admiration for Nicolas’s performance, “Nic was absolutely wonderful. Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it. I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon.”
The inclusion of Cage’s Superman in “The Flash” is made possible by the film’s storyline.
Ezra Miller’s Flash manipulates time to save his mother, resulting in a ripple effect. This led to the emergence of alternate versions of Batman, portrayed by Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, and the return of Michael Shannon’s General Zod from 2013’s “Man of Steel.”
The specific role of Nicolas’s Superman in the movie, as well as his alignment with Sasha Calle’s Supergirl still isn’t clear.
The original concept for “Superman Lives,” written by Kevin Smith and to be directed by Tim Burton, featured Superman confronting the formidable villain Doomsday. The film’s plot presented a unique interpretation of the character.
Nicolas shared his insights on the abandoned project, describing his envisioned Superman as a “1980s Superman with, like, the samurai black long hair.” While the vision didn’t materialize, the actor expressed excitement about the opportunity.
Muschietti highlighted Cage’s profound passion for Superman. He shared that he owned a copy of Action Comics #1, which marked the character’s debut. He even named one of his sons Kal-El, Superman’s birth name on Krypton.
“The Flash” is set to race into theaters on June 16th. Be sure to watch the final trailer to glimpse the highly anticipated film here:
