“My son Yce did not really have a normal life,” says Bianca Lapus
The controversial rape case of “It’s Showtime” host Vhong Navarro have left a huge psychological strain on the TV host and his son, Yce.
Navarro’s ex-wife and mother to Yce, Bianca Lapus, reveals that the noontime show host and his son are both in regular therapy twice a week to alleviate mental and emotional tensions.
She reveals this in a recent interview at the launch of Top Shelf Magazine, where Lapus is the co-owner and marketing director.
According to Lapusm Yce’s life was never easy, more that his father is involved in such a massive scandal. For a controversy that hauled on for almost 10 years, Lapus discloses how her son had struggled.
“My son Yce did not really have a normal life. There was a time when he was secured by bodyguards. He turned into an introvert. He was always at home, in his room. He’s always sleeping because of the medications he’s taking,” she says.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph in November 2022, Lapus has initially expressed her daunting worries over Navarro’s health right after detainment details broke across. But she emphasized more on her son’s well-being and the constant battle against anxiety.
“Bilang nanay, naawa ako sa kanya. Kasi nagbi-build up na yung galit niya, yung frustration… Nagiging hopeless siya,” Lapus shares.
“Binabaliktad ko yun. Sabi ko kay Yce, ‘Huwag mong isipin yun. Kailangan maging matatag ka. Maniwala ka na the truth will prevail and your dad will be free.’ Yun lagi ang sinasabi ko sa kanya,” she adds.
Lapus also divulges her setup with Yce–an enduring eight years apart from each other due to security issues that seemingly held her relationship away from her son. According to her, “Yce stayed with Vhong. It was quite painful for me, but it was a sacrifice I had to take as Yce is safer with his father.”

Will Yce follow his father’s showbiz footsteps?
In 2022, Yce graduated from the University of Sto. Tomas with a communications degree. It has been his ambition to enter showbiz but the prospect was dismissed as mental health challenges took precedence. Lapus is not at all insistent on the idea, saying that she will support her son in whatever road he finds happiness in.
Navarro and Lapus wed in 1998 and had Yce as their son. 10 years later, the two terminated their marriage through annulment. In 2019, Navarro married his longtime girlfriend, screenwriter Tanya Bautista, while Lapus has three other sons with her non-showbiz partner, Jimmy Enriquez.
