In 2001, Jennifer Lopez released “Love Don’t Cost A Thing,” the career-defining single that introduced the world to her femme fatale moniker, “J. Lo.” On Sunday, the 51-year-old pop powerhouse recreated the iconic moment by the beach in the song’s music video, and honestly, the two videos don’t look 20 years apart!

Lopez posted the clip on her Instagram with the following caption: “Happy 20th Anniversary to my 2nd album J.Lo!!!! Had a little fun at a recent shoot #Throwback #LoveDontCostAThing #JLO20thAnniversary #LoveDontCostAThingChallenge @jlobeauty #JLOBeauty.”

In the short clip, she’s seen discarding her accessories one by one but leaves her last piece of clothing on while strutting towards the camera, just like in the original music video. She shot the clip while “having a little fun” during the shoot of her newly-founded beauty brand, JLo Beauty

“Love Don’t Cost A Thing” was the lead single of Lopez’s sophomore album, “J.Lo” and was hot off the heels of another ultra-successful single, “Let’s Get Loud.” It received both critical and commercial success internationally, with critiques describing the track as “a sharp rebuke to all of those male hip hoppers who kvetch about their women going for the bling bling.”

She carried her recreation over to her Twitter and even started the #LoveDontCostAThingChallenge to let fans show their support

However, the multi-awarded diva got mocked by Twitter users who called the challenge “tone-deaf” due to the fact that she’s inadvertently inviting people to “go out and throw their valuables away on the beach” in the middle of a pandemic.

One user even urged Lopez to “just be rich in private”:

Okay, maybe love does cost a thing.
