WATCH: MAPPA Releases First Preview of Long-Awaited “Chainsaw Man” Anime

Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association (MAPPA), one of the best-known Japanese animation studios, just threw an event for its tenth anniversary last Sunday (June 27). They commemorated the milestone with panels, visuals, and announcements of their various projects. Among them was the first trailer debut of the long-awaited anime Chainsaw Man.

Chainsaw Man is based on a manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The story follows Denji, a young man who hunts down devils in an attempt to pay back his late father’s debt. When he gets slain on the job, he merges with Pochita, his dog who is actually a devil, and this allows him to continue living as a human-devil hybrid. Now revived as part-devil, he joins a group of devil hunters to avoid being hunted down by them.

There isn’t an official release date yet, but there are already tons of fans anticipating its premiere. Chainsaw Man trended on Twitter during the trailer’s debut, and within hours, the trailer even reached a million views on YouTube.

This isn’t a surprise since the manga, an ongoing series that started in 2018, has gained a lot of popularity in the past year. Additionally, with the conclusion of the manga’s first phase dropping back in December 2020 around the same time that the anime adaptation was announced, the hype only grew.

The fact that MAPPA is the one producing the anime adaptation has fans thrilled as well. MAPPA has created some of the most popular and beloved series that even non-fans would recognize, such as Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Yuri!!! on Ice.
