“Where Is The Lie?” Clinches Award At Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival 2023

Double victory it is for ANIMA Studios and Max Eigenmann!

Filipino dark comedy movie “Where Is The Lie?” has bagged a Special Jury Recognition award at the 39th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, producer ANIMA Studios shares on Instagram on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

The Quark Henares-helmed film is the country’s official entry to the Narratives Feature category of the said event. It is one of the recipients of the merit along with another film, Red, White and Brass by Damon Fepulea’i and Halaifonua Finau.

Other notable awards given are: 

Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature: Old Narcissus (dir. Tsuyoshi Shoji)

Special Jury Recognition for Cinematography: Dir. Alfonso Chin (Golden Delicious)

Special Jury Recognition for Performance: Taijiro Tamura for his portrayal in Old Narcissus

On top of the victory, a Filipina has made waves at the ceremony as actress Max Eigenmann was honored as another recipient of the Special Jury Award for the performance category. 

“Where Is The Lie?” goes big at film festivals

“Where Is The Lie?” banners EJ Jallorina, Royce Cabrera, and Maris Racal as they play a comedic approach to the once-viral Twitter thread about a transwoman and her traumatic experience from catfishing.

Prior to the award, Maris and EJ have recently  flown to Italy to carry the title for the Udine Far East Film Festival. It participated in the event together with other Filipino-produced films “Deleter” under the direction of Mikhail Red and the dark feature “In My Mother’s Skin” by Kenneth Dagatan. 

“Where Is The Lie?”  premiered at the 2023 Slamdance Film Festival on January 22,2023 at Treasure Mountain Inn Ballroom, USA. It was directed by Quark Henares.

It comes as one of the latest releases of the ANIMA Studios along with other titles “Leonor Will Never Die” and “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon,” both of which are included in NME’s 10 Best Asian Films of 2022. 

ANIMA Studios is one of the brands under Kroma Entertainment.
