Yassi Pressman, Ruru Madrid Team Up For VIVA-GMA Collaboration

They will headline the film “Video City”

VIVA artist and former GMA-7 talent Yassi Pressman teams up with Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid for a movie.

VIVA Films and GMA Pictures are collaborating once again for the movie, “Video City.”

Yassi and Ruru attended the movie’s story conference and media announcement on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Botejyu, Estancia Mall, Pasig City.

The movie tells the story of Han (Ruru), a film student who finds himself traveling back to the ‘90s after playing with a VHS tape rewinder inside an old internet cafe. He is surprised to see that the cafe he is in has become a Video City branch.

Video City is a popular VHS-rental place owned by VIVA in the ‘90s.

The staff that attends to Han is Ningning (Yassi), an aspiring actress who is unlucky to bag roles in auditions. Han then explores the ‘90s life with Ningning and starts to fall in love with her. The problem comes when they realize that they live in different timelines.

“Video City” is directed by Raynier Brizuela, whose previous works include the VIVA movie “Mang Jose” and “Puto: The TV series.” He co-writes the movie with Che Espiritu, writer and director of 2018 Cinemalaya finalist “Pan de Salawal.”

Yassi, Ruru happy to work for GMA-Viva Collab

During the story conference, Yassi and Ruru have expressed how grateful they are to be chosen in VIVA Films and GMA Pictures’ latest collaboration after more than 10 years.

Yassi says, “I’m so happy and honored and blessed din po, sa dami dami ng mga artista, ang mapili po. It really means a lot na nabibigay mo yung heart mo and nare-recognize and nabibigyan po ng isa pang chance.”

The project serves as a homecoming to Yassi to GMA, the network where she started her career 14 years ago, with VIVA Artists Agency as manager.

She continues, “Very excited to do work again with Ruru, dati nagkatrabaho na po kami sa GMA. It’s nice to see Sir Joey [Abacan, GMA executive] again, maraming familiar faces.

“Of course, my home in VIVA, I’ve been with them for 14 years na. It’s beautiful kasi exciting din po yung material na binigay sa amin.”

As for Ruru, the project serves as a celebration of his 10th year in the industry.

He shares, “Of course, sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam na kami po yung napili na after how many years, nagkaroon po uli ng collaboration ang GMA and VIVA.

“Homegrown talent po ako ng GMA, it’s actually my tenth year with GMA and to work with VIVA, sobrang malaking karangalan po sa akin dahil sobrang fan po ako ni Mr. Robin Padilla so, lahat po ng pelikula na ginagawa niya dati, nire-rentahan ko po yun sa Video City.

“So, parang ang sarap po na naga-align o nagko-connect sa isang proyekto.”

“Video City” is set to screen soon in cinemas as shooting has already commenced for the film.
