Toyo Eatery has been on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants List five times!
Two local restaurants champion Filipino cuisine in the international space as they make it into this year’s coveted 50 Best Restaurants in Asia 2023 list! These are Toyo Eatery and Metiz.
Chefs Jordy Navarra of Toyo Eatery and Stephan Duhesme of Metiz personally accepted the awards in Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore last March 28, 2022.
Toyo Eatery’s ranking this year is 42 while Métiz is 48. This is the fifth time Toyo Eatery has been recognized by Asia’s 50 Best, which will make its coming 7th anniversary celebration a little more special. Meanwhile, the three-year-old Métiz is a first-timer on the list.
Making the list more intriguing is that the restaurants are informed of their inclusion in the list in advance but are not told their rankings. Furthermore, restaurants are also instructed to keep their inclusion a secret until the awarding ceremony.
Metiz and Toyo Eatery are located in the same compound on Chino Roces Avenue Extension and are only 150 to 200 meters away from each other.
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants List 2023
Launched in 2013, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants was created to celebrate gastronomy across the region and to provide diners around the globe with local insight and culinary recommendations.
The annual list is created by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 300 leaders in the restaurant industry composed of food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs, and regional culinary experts.
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants takes in six voting regions: India & Subcontinent; South-East Asia – South; South-East Asia – North; Hong Kong, Taiwan & Macau; mainland China & Korea; Japan.
These regions cover the following countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Micronesia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
In 2022, an extended list—the 51-100 best restaurants in Asia—was introduced to give a boost to more noteworthy restaurants in the region following the food and service industry’s major suffering that was prompted by the COVID-19 restrictions. Toyo Eatery, Antonio’s, and Gallery by Chele were part of this list last year, claiming the 94th, 74th, and 69th places, respectively.
