A rare return just flew by everyone’s radar, but 90s kids can’t help but notice it anyway: Jollibee’s Honey Beef Rice is back on its menu! Albeit for a limited run only, the mere news that our favorite sweet and savory rice meal has returned is enough fuel to start the nostalgia train.
An obvious standout from a long list of discontinued menu items, the Honey Beef Rice used to be a favorite mainly because it’s as Filipino as a fastfood meal can be: back then, a generous serving of tangy and tender strips of beef marinated in a sweet honey sauce and laid on a bed of onions and warm rice is just the quick pick-me-up we need after a long day of school.
Here’s an aged ad for the Honey Beef Rice released in 1999 — yep, 21 years ago! That there is a whole of generation of legally-aged 20-somethings whose parents might have binged on this is insane to imagine.
Now, instead of being an after-school treat, the tasty treat can be the quick bite in between our Zoom meetings or after our online classes.
Unfortunately, it’s a seasonal item that’s only coming back to select stores, namely Jollibee’s branches in Bayani Road, BGC Triangle, Bayani Road, Macapagal Biopolis, Legarda Bustillos, and Madrigal.
The Honey Beef Rice sells for P149 for an a la carte order and P169 for an added drink. If you have a family-sized appetite, the returning dish also comes in a family pan size.
