Filipino fast-food chain Jollibee, home of the famous Chickenjoy, continues to open international locations this year with its second store in Jersey City. The first branch opened in Danforth Avenue back in 2012, while an older location closed for good in place of this bigger, newer store in Edison. Construction began just weeks before the spike of coronavirus cases in New Jersey.
The First Jollibee Drive-Thru in New Jersey
The new Edison branch is the first Jollibee store in Jersey City with drive-thru service and is the 69th store in North America. “We came from Jollibee Danforth, and now we are offering our drive-thru channel, so all the Jersey City residents and those who are traveling from out of state will really be longing for a drive-thru offering,” store manager Merlie Caleon told ABS-CBN News. It’s bigger in comparison to the older location, with a 78-seat capacity.
Jersey City residents exclaim how it’s a more convenient location as it’s right by the 440. Another resident mentions how pleased he is about not needing to travel further to get a taste of Jollibee. “I’m so happy because this is the epicenter of Jersey City, so many people come here instead of going to Danforth,” said Francis Sison. Guests who want to visit can find the Edison branch at 760 Route 1 North. They allow for order pickup and order delivery for added convenience.
Jollibee Foods Corporation plans to open 450 stores globally this year and at least 500 stores next year. “We look forward to the sustained recovery of the business as the world gradually returns to normalcy, aided by the introduction of new vaccines,” said JFC CEO Ernesto Tanmantiong. There are currently 37 Jollibee restaurants in the US, with two more soon to open in the tri-state area by the end of this year.
