It’s depressing for any UP Diliman resident to see the most famous café and cake store on campus, The Chocolate Kiss Café, say goodbye twice. First, it closed its doors at Bahay ng Alumni for good last August 2020, and now, their celebrated cake shop is set to close down as well, with a final date for ordered pegged this June 23.

In an announcement posted on The Chocolate Kiss Café’s Facebook page, the owners of the 23-year-old establishment shared the difficulties of navigating through a global pandemic, an experience that they described as “not sustainable.”

They also bid a final farewell to beloved customers who made “ChocKiss,” as it was fondly called, a venue of cherished memories.

“The Chocolate Kiss cakes were born in a home kitchen. Baking and selling them started out as a hobby for its founders, which became a modest side-business come Christmas time,” the post read. “No one planned for this “side-line” to build its own Commissary, nor grow into a 23-year old Café.”

“How far it has come; how much we’ve experienced!” it added.

As a final chance for their cake fans to have a fill, Chocolate Kiss will continue selling all its crowd-favorite cake selection, and may even whip up a few limited-edition and seasonal goodies to make use of all their ingredients.

“In behalf of everyone who was part of The Chocolate Kiss family, we thank you for making us part of your celebrations, and your lives. We’ve built so many good memories over the years, and we only want to leave you with happy thoughts,” the café writes.

Popular for their dayap chiffon cake and devil’s food cake, The Chocolate Kiss Café has been serving anyone who happens to pass by the picturesque campus in Diliman. From students to faculties and even the country’s most prominent personalities, anyone who has ever made it into their homey Bahay ng Alumni branch has dug into their delectable desserts.
