The President Grand Palace in Binondo is an institution. Situated along Ongpin Street, it’s been one of Manila‘s grandest restaurants for decades. Their menu is classic and focuses on Cantonese cuisine.

Gracious and spacious
The place is massive: it seats 700, has four private rooms, and even has a full-scale stage! It would be perfect for birthdays, weddings, and other gatherings.
Every single member of the staff was respectful and attentive. It didn’t matter that the house was pretty full, even if it was lunchtime mid-week. Service was prompt and they were all quite kind.

Kuya Cesar, one of the top waitstaff, was helpful from the start. With his guidance, I wasn’t overwhelmed by the massive menu.
One of the customers partaking of the lunch rush was Senator-elect JV Ejercito. He’s a long-time fan of the restaurant because he feels it serves authentic Cantonese food. “Their offerings are classic, delicious, and good,” he tells FreebieMNL.
Some of the items on the menu include elements of abalone, duck, frogs, and pigeons. For the meal I shared with my partner, I went a little simpler.
Buttered fried chicken, scallops, and spareribs made up our sumptuous lunch! Of course, no Chinese meal is complete without rice. Yang chow fried rice was the perfect complement to all that deliciousness.
Their notable dishes include Fried Noodles, Fried Squid Salt & Pepper, and Peking Duck. The next time you explore Binondo, make sure you don’t miss out on this incredible piece of Fil-Chi food history!
