SCTEX To Impose Toll Hike In June 2022

Heads up, motorists.

Starting June 1, 2022, Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) will have a toll fee hike. It’s equal to P0.78 per kilometer driven on its fast lanes.

The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) authorized the change. Public utility buses can still avail of the old rates provided by SCTEX for the next three months. They will also receive toll subsidies. This is to help them cope with the new rates.

The country’s longest expressway

SCTEX is a freeway in Northern Luzon that eases access to Subic, Clark, Tarlac, and nearby areas. It’s the country’s longest expressway at 93.77 kilometers (58.27 mi).

The government-owned and controlled Bases Conversion and Development Authority built it. They began construction on April 5, 2005. Commercial operations began three years later, with construction on some parts still unfinished. Full operations began on July 5, 2008.

SCTEX upgrades

NLEX Corporation spent P2.6 billion to upgrade the expressway since it took over operations. That happened seven years ago.

One of its most important enhancements was the NLEX-SCTEX integration project. That cost P393 million, but it was worth every peso. It unified toll collection, reducing the number of stops. That’s why expressway travel is now hassle-free.
