This 7.9-Kilogram Potato Could Hold New Record As The World’s Heaviest

A couple from New Zealand just discovered one of “nature’s pleasant surprises.”

Waipa residents Colin and Donna Craig-Brown found in their garden a large 7.9-kilogram potato, which could hold the record of “The World’s Heaviest Potato.” Although Colin and Donna have already sent their application, the record has not yet been confirmed by the Guinness World Records.

“Had no idea it was growing there, and I don’t know how long he was there because I was walking over the top of him all last cucumber season,” they told Radio New Zealand.

Colin and Donna have been towing the “nasty-looking thing” in a small cart around their farm. When it’s not in its cart, the couple keeps the potato–which they named “Doug”–inside their freezer to keep it from drying out and getting “pongy.”

“He’s happy in the freezer. Pull him out every now and then chuck him in the sunshine and let him see the outside world,” they said.

“We put a hat on him. We put him on Facebook, taking him for a walk, giving him some sunshine. It’s all a bit of fun. It’s amazing what entertains people.”

The current record for “The World’s Heaviest Potato” belongs to Peter Glazebrook from the United Kingdom who grew a 4.98-kilogram potato in 2011.
