Tinapayan Festival Marks 40 Years of Success in the Baking Industry

Tinapayan Festival continues to give back to the community.

For over 40 years, the local bakery Tinapayan Festival in Manila has been a favorite of students, workers, and residents. It offers baked goods ranging from bread, cakes, and pastries. As they mark four decades of success in the world of baking, they share their continuous commitment to Filipinos and cement their roots in the founder’s hometown of Cuenca, Batangas.

How Tinapayan Festival has survived

It’s no secret that what Tinapayan Festival went through what other local bakeries did. Luckily, the family-owned bakery found a way to survive crises such as increased competition, inflation, and the pandemic. From having several stores before the pandemic to starting over with one main branch in 2021, this bakery has stood the test of time.

“It was not an easy journey. We had to take care of our employees, especially when the pandemic hit. But we realized we needed to continue serving our community during one of the toughest times in all our 40 years. We introduced other products that many of our customers have grown to love. It helped us a lot to work with longtime partners and suppliers to get through the difficult days,” recalls Lucito “Chito” Chavez, the founder of Tinapayan Festival.

Ben Garcia from Unicomm Ingredients Philippines, Inc. is one of those that they have worked with since 1984. He has always supplied quality materials and ingredients, including the ube used for Tinapayan Festival’s Ube Loaf. “Ang maganda sa kanila is that they have one recipe, but they were able to come up with different variations that suit the locals’ taste,” Garcia says.

Giving back to the community

Along with the success of Tinapayan Festival is their continuous effort to support the local economy. As early as 1985 and even during the early 2000s, Chavez has consistently lobbied for the use of local agricultural products in their goodies to help support farmers’ livelihoods.

Tinapayan Festival also thought of ways to serve freshly baked goods without raising prices drastically. They’ve also made their products healthier for community buyers.

“We know how difficult and expensive it is to run bakeries. One way to ensure survival is by being smart about raw ingredients. My father taught us to think of all possible solutions, and the one that has stood the test of time is the use of crops. From our local bread options to our cakes, we use everything we can to serve our customers,” shares Luis Chavez.

There is no greater joy than that when we help our fellow countrymen. #BatangTinapayan ??? At Tinapayan, we believe in…
