Weeks after Squid Game first aired on Netflix, the Korean show continues to trend online and in real life. First, a replica of the creepy doll popped up at a mall in Manila, and residents tried to recreate the “Red Light, Green Light” game. Now, a restaurant in Quezon City created a promotion for customers to take on the Honeycomb Challenge.
What is the Honeycomb Challenge?
In case you’re unfamiliar with the game, here are the rules. Players must select one of four shapes — a circle, triangle, star, or umbrella — and carve out the honeycomb candy, commonly known as Dalgona. With the help of a needle, they must perfectly cut out the shape within the short time limit.
As TikTok user @bayashi.tiktok demonstrated, this challenge is more complex than it appears. He attempted to cut out the mold and failed to do so. In the series, failure to accomplish the task results in a fatal penalty.
Where can you try the Honeycomb Challenge?
Those interested in taking on the Honeycomb Challenge can head over to Hodai Restaurant in Quezon City. The Korean-Japanese BBQ place adapted the game from episode three into a fun activity their patrons can try. Full paying adults and customers ordering the Daebag Set are eligible to enter and get a chance to win a free Daebag Set worth P599.
The promo period is from September 27 to October 10, 2021. Visit their Facebook page for the full mechanics.
Try the Honeycomb Challenge at Home
Another way you can try the Honeycomb Challenge is by purchasing The Dessert Museum’s Dalgona Candy Kit. The kit includes eight pieces of pre-shaped Dalgona candies, so you can host a friendly competition at home. It comes wrapped in Bakebe’s signature pink pastry box and costs P249, excluding shipping. Send them a message to place your order and enjoy that caramel treat afterward.
