We found the best-tasting carrot cake in Metro Manila!
If you’ve ever been to Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, chances are you’ve been to the La Preciosa Fine Dining Restaurant, home of the region’s best-tasting Carrot Cake. This iconic resto is the place to be in those parts if you’re looking for good eats.
It’s named after Preciosa Palma, the mother of proprietress Pam Aragoza. In the 1990s, Palma ran a kitchenette called Peppermint Café. Most of her clients were locals because there weren’t many tourists at the time. When Palma passed away, Aragoza decided to move to a bigger location. The current incarnation of Palma’s humble kitchenette is a two-story Spanish-style house. It has a terrace that now serves as an alfresco buffet area.
The La Preciosa Fine Dining Restaurant has a wide variety of items on its menu. But its best-loved dish is their special Carrot Cake.
Carrot Cake Manila
La Preciosa’s Carrot Cake is fluffy and moist. It’s topped with sweetened shredded carrots and white icing. All who have tried it said it melts in their mouth. Over the years, scores of tourists flocked to Laoag City to try it. As word of its popularity grew, people clamored for it to be available in Metro Manila. Finally, in 2018, Carrot Cake Manila was born.
“We’ve worked very hard to perfect our recipe throughout the years. When we bake our cakes, we put in a lot of care and effort. We’re proud to say our products have the right amount of sweetness. The carrots are the main focus when it comes to the flavor,” the Carrot Cake Manila team told FreebieMNL in an email.
The ongoing pandemic affected their business, but they didn’t let that get them down for long.
“It reduced the demand for our products because people stopped going out. They also didn’t celebrate special occasions as often. But that gave us the perfect opportunity to improve our business. We explored more kinds of desserts that would spike interest in our clients.”
Be that as it may, their Carrot Cake is still the bestselling item on their menu. Like most baked goods, it packs quite a punch in the calorie department. As much as they love that people enjoy their product, they also want to remind customers to take it easy.
“Each gram of sugar contains four calories. A single slice of cake with frosting puts you over the recommended daily limit of sugar. Going over that limit isn’t an issue for most healthy people, but don’t make a habit of it.”
Now that things are finally looking up, they hope to see more people enjoying their products. When asked if they had any advice for people looking to start their own business, this is what they had to say.
“Figure out what products people look for and need. Work with that and develop something that will set you apart from the rest. Find your niche.”
If you can make the trip, the La Preciosa Fine Dining Restaurant is located at Brgy 2, F. Julian Street, Arabella Events Place, 4217Â Laoag City.
