6 Events That Are Now Happening Online

While the COVID-19 crisis has affected and caused the cancellation of many concerts, festivals, and theater shows, organizers and brands have put their events online to empower its audiences even in the most challenging times. So even while at home, you can attend these events that are now and will be happening online:

Virgin Labfest 2020

Slated to happen on June 10-28,2020, this year’s Virgin Labfest will be going online. Titled “Virgin Labfest 2020: Lab in the Time of COVID” with the theme “Kapit”, this year’s lockdown edition of the festival will feature nine (9) new works as their main performances. Cinemalaya 2020

The highly anticipated Philippine independent film festival, Cinemalaya, will continue to sail on its 16th year with its short film festival and competition to be held exclusively online starting August 14 to 23, 2020. Log on to Cinemalaya’s Facebook page to get more details on how you can get a taste of original works from local filmmakers and discover more homegrown talent.

Viva Europa 2020

Another cultural festival will be shifting its course digitally as the European Union (EU) has started staging “Viva Europa 2020,” a series of online cultural shows centered on a  European Film Festival. Starting May 25 until June 6, you will get the latest cultural treat online as Viva Europa now comes into the comforts of your homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Miss Earth Philippines

This year’s Miss Earth competition has embraced an online-centric competition as it already started staging virtual presentations of the candidates. The coronation ceremony is scheduled on either July 1 or 2 and will still be held online, with all the delegates parading from their own hometowns via Zoom. We Are One: A Global Film Festival

What will happen if the film community comes together to create an online celebration of creativity and talent? The Cannes Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, and Venice Film Festival were among 21 noted events that took part in a free 10-day online festival entitled “We Are One: A Global Film Festival”. Featuring full-length and short films, documentaries, and music performances as well as specially curated filmmaker talks, the global festival has already started last May 29 and will run until June 7 for free on YouTube at https://www.YouTube.com/WeAreOne

Metro Manila Pride March and FestivalYou might never see them on the streets this year but they will continue to raise their voices online. This year’s Pride March will be celebrated in a more meaningful way amidst the crisis as it’ll be shifting its in-person activities to various digital engagements with online events and activities lined to empower and promote solidarity within and outside the LGBTQI+ sector.
