A number of you may already own a UV light for sanitizing your personal belongings, especially these days in the post-COVID-19 era. You’ve also probably seen UV light boxes being sold in online shops such as Lazada and Shopee. (BTW if you are looking for deals and free coupons, check out our FreebieMNL coupons!). Today we are going to show you a simple DIY project you can do at home to create your own UV box that will make your device even more effective in getting rid of bacteria.
The most important tip is to make use of a reflector surface. Glass works, but it may be hard to manipulate — you can use a standard cooler bag (like in the video below) which is available in most grocery stores.
If you do not have one, you can simply use any type of storage box (pictured below) with the lining made out of reflectors. You can get these from the car accessories section in your favorite Handy Man or True Value.
Cut a hole that is around the size of the UVC lamp (please use a UVC light as the other types — namely UVA and UVB — will not be effective).
Line the entire inner surface of the box with the reflector, including the lid. When using this, make sure you are far away from the light as it can be damaging to your skin. This particular UVC light is from UV Care and has a feature where if you pick it up and turn it over, the light turns off for safety reasons.
That’s it! Pretty easy right? You can save a lot of money by making your own, to fit all your things.
