REDEEM VOUCHERS

Years of drinking soda, coffee, alcohol, smoking, and just plain eating can gradually break down the outer enamel on your teeth and reveal the naturally yellow dentin layer underneath. While it’s not particularly harmful, it isn’t appealing either.

Thankfully, sparkling white teeth can be achieved through natural remedies, as opposed to expensive whitening sessions with your dentist. Try out these at-home fixes for yellowing teeth!

Brush your teeth with baking soda

Baking soda has natural whitening properties, which is it is commonly used to whiten clothes or clean kitchens. In fact, a lot of toothpaste brands actually include baking soda in their formula. Grab a bowl and mix one teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of water to make a paste. Not only does baking soda help with attaining shiny teeth, it also helps to prevent bacteria growth.

Ditch the soda and have some fruits!

Drinks with caffeine like soda and coffee stain your teeth, especially if you drink them regularly. A better alternative is to eat fruits high in water content like strawberries and pineapples. The water in the fruits helps to cleanse all the dirt lingering in between teeth and can remove extra particles hiding in cracks and corners.

Keep to your dental hygiene routine

Of course, keeping your teeth nice and white has a lot to do with maintenance. Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes to get rid of leftover residue from food and bacteria. Flossing after brushing can also help loosen up the plaque in between your teeth and will definitely aid in achieving a brighter smile.

Some experts claim that citric fruits or those with the compound d-limonene like lemons, oranges, and bananas can help whiten your teeth by simply rubbing them on. It’s a great way to have your daily snack and have use for the peels later. Just grab the leftover peels and lightly rub them on your teeth for about two minutes. Rinse your mouth and brush your teeth after, and you’re done!

Teeth whitening, at its core, is mostly done for aesthetic purposes. What’s more important is that we keep our teeth and mouth healthy by regularly brushing and flossing. These extra steps may even help save you from a trip to the dentist!
