The Secret to Keeping Your White Shoes Clean

You can’t go wrong with owning a pair of white sneakers because they go well with almost any outfit. But you might be hesitant about wearing them during the rainy season out of fear of dirtying them in mud. Find out the secret to keeping your white shoes clean so you can wear them worry-free outside.

Sneaker Protector

You’ve heard the saying prevention is better than cure countless times, and the same applies to sneakers. Coat your new shoes with a protectant to prevent dirt, stains, and liquids from ruining their pristine condition. For older shoes, apply the protectant after cleaning to reduce further wearing of the material.  Sneakerhead Johnny Fajardo suggests reapplying every other week.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

This is an inexpensive way to clean your white shoes since baking soda and vinegar are common household ingredients. Add a tablespoon of baking soda and two tablespoons of white vinegar to a cup of water to create your cleaning solution. Lather the shoes with this mixture using an old cloth or toothbrush and let the paste dry for about 30 minutes. Rinse with water afterward and air dries the shoes.

Liquid Detergent

Tackle surface dirt with a soft brush, then create your cleaning solution by adding a few drops of liquid detergent into a cup of warm water. Brush the shoes with soapy water and rinse them with a damp cloth after. Cover with paper towels while it’s wet to absorb moisture and allow it to sundry. The stubborn stain will transfer to the paper towels once it has dried.

Toothpaste

It’s effective for cleaning teeth and works just fine cleaning shoes, too. Take note that you should use white-gel toothpaste to avoid further staining your white shoes. Mix it with a little water and start brushing with an old toothbrush. Use a damp cloth to wipe away the paste residue and let it air dry. Not only will your shoes look clean, but they’ll also smell fresh.

Now you can wear your white shoes with outside confidence during the rainy season. Allowing dirt and stain to build up makes cleaning more difficult.  Regularly cleaning is the true secret to keeping them pristine.
