Celebrities sound off on transport rep Claudine Bautista’s lavish Balesin wedding

Enchong DeeAgot IsidroOgie Diaz, and Pokwang are just some of the names who called out the lavish wedding of congresswoman Claudine Bautista amid a steep rise in COVID-19 cases and the ongoing plight of pandemic-beaten drivers and transport operators.

Bautista, a representative of Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights party list (DUMPER), held her wedding with Jose French “Tracker” Lim in Balesin Island Resort in Polilio, Quezon, a venue exquisitely styled by Gideon Hermosa. She also wore a wedding gown drawn and sewn by distinguished designer Michael Cinco, who posted the outfit on his Instagram page last Wednesday, August 11.

On Twitter, Isidro and Diaz retweeted other social media users who noted that the congresswoman also voted against the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise.

Lamenting the lavish occasion, Isidro wrote in her caption that “that gown alone can feed hundred of families of displaced drivers” which would be apt considering the “sector she represents.” Meanwhile, Diaz, in Filipino, prodded the politician to publish her accomplishments during the pandemic.

Comedienne Pokwang was also quick to quip on the congresswoman’s stunt, citing the irony that the representative of drivers has enough class to afford a Michael Cinco wedding gown:

In a now-deleted tweet, Dee also chimed in with his own denouncement, boldly claiming that “The money for commuters and drivers went to [Bautista’s] wedding.”

“Let’s not prolong this conversation and don’t say otherwise,” wrote Dee to his followers.

In other news, the Commission on Audit (COA) in its 2020 report revealed that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) only used around P59 million of its allocated P5.58 billion funds that were meant to subsidize the transport sector during the recurring lockdowns. This is despite prevalent news of jeepneys drivers being sidelined and forced to take to the streets to beg for aid or supplies.

During an online press briefing on Monday, transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide or PISTON were in disbelief when they discovered the report considering that none of their 800,000 operators, drivers, and transport workers reportedly received any subsidy.

Senator Nancy Binay also berated the regulatory board as well as the transport department for being “invisible” and being the “biggest job stranglers” for failing to prioritize the plight of the transport sector.
