Miss Kon: Dancing Lesbians Are The Highlight Of This Hot New Bar In Malate

Bars are a dime a dozen, but this one is different.

I discovered Miss Kon while scrolling through TikTok. The video I saw featured butch lesbians dancing onstage. It piqued my curiosity because I thought the bar represented lesbians so well.

The bar itself didn’t have an official TikTok account, but most of the dancers did. I looked them up and saw videos of them dancing to trending TikTok songs outside the bar. Other TikTok videos related to the bar were by customers who took short clips of the dancers they liked.

In the metro, there are gay bars like Chelu and O-Bar. Some clubs cater to the entire spectrum, such as Nectar and TodayXFuture. But there aren’t bars or clubs geared towards lesbians like me. Miss Kon was refreshing to me, and I wanted to check it out for myself.

Here’s how my visit went.

Finding Miss Kon

It was a Saturday evening, and I went with my partner. We arrived in Malate at around 9 in the evening, and we decided to have dinner at Erra’s, a ramen place along Adriatico. Based on the address listed on Miss Kon’s Facebook page, we were 2 minutes away from the bar.

After dinner, we walked to where we thought the bar was, only to find that we had the wrong address. A helpful security guard told us Miss Kon was in Pedro Gil. We hopped in the car and drove to the right place, but we were still an hour early.

The manager, who asked me to call them Manager Pare, said they weren’t sure if they could let me interview them. They said they had yet to ask the owners. I didn’t let that stop me. I convinced them to let me take pictures and talk to some of the dancers. When the bar opened at 11:00 PM, Manager Pare led us to our seats. We had a good view of the stage.

The place itself was huge. I did a few calculations in my head and figured out it could fit around 300 people. The stage could fit about 20 dancers. It was well-lit, and the strobe lights set it off well. There was also a TikTok area, which was a small, square room decorated with neon lights. Customers could do TikTok videos and take pictures there.

The place

I discovered that Miss Kon was a young establishment, as it opened last July 22, 2021. The Japanese owners wanted variety in their line of clubs. They had regular clubs and a club for straight men called Super Kon (King of Night). But they needed a place that catered to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Butch lesbians dominated Miss Kon’s scene. But there was a decent sprinkling of lipstick lesbians and soft butches. The place also had bisexuals, trans men, and people with dwarfism. It was refreshing to see a variety of lesbians in one place.

The menu had a nice selection of finger food, and they also offered different kinds of alcohol. The prices were reasonable too.

The culture

The word of the night was “masaya.” All the dancers said they loved working there since the management treats them well. The tips aren’t centralized. Dancers get to take home 100% of the tips they get.

Miss Kon prides itself on being a respectable club. Dancers don’t provide “extra service.” Relationships between dancers are also discouraged. As of this writing, Miss Kon has 54 dancers. But Manager Pare says that they’re still accepting applicants.

Miss Kon is open to everyone, even straight people. They also have a decent-sized foreign clientele. They have a very open culture. Discrimination isn’t a thing at Miss Kon.

The club’s strongest days are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. They have a steady stream of regulars and walk-ins on other days. Event days are also good, as the club usually gets packed when there’s an event.

The final word on Miss Kon

Miss Kon is a place I’d recommend to my lesbian friends. The culture is great. There weren’t many customers around when I was there, but they didn’t notice. Or if they did, they didn’t say. The dancers were having so much fun, and the way they performed made the place look like it was full to the brim.

It was an experience I would love to relive, some other day, when I’m rested and ready for an all-nighter.
