Elon Musk Creates AI Company To Compete With ChatGPT

Will X.AI be able to compete with ChatGPT?

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has founded a new artificial intelligence company called X.AI.

The Nevada filing, dated March 9, names Musk as the company’s sole director. Jared Birchall, who manages Musk’s family office, serves as its secretary. Musk was skeptical about the future of artificial intelligence, calling for a complete AI development pause. He cited the “risks to society” he says the technology poses.

“Recent months have seen AI labs locked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one – not even their creators – can understand, predict, or reliably control,” said Musk in an open letter calling for the development pause last month.

In an interview with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson, Musk warned that “AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production.” He also stated that “it has the potential of civilization destruction.”

Musk co-founded one of the leading artificial intelligence firms, OpenAI. But he left the company in 2018 after a reported internal power struggle. He reportedly sought to build a rival to OpenAI. Reports say Musk has been recruiting artificial intelligence engineers for a new venture for months.

Artificial intelligence has become a hot market in recent years. Microsoft investing up to $10 billion in OpenAI. At the same time, Google and Amazon have also entered the space to compete.

X.AI joins his broad portfolio alongside Twitter, automaker Tesla, SpaceX, Boring, and Neuralink.
