It seems the tables have turned on the stern British chef.

What’s supposed to be a memorable day for newlyweds Charlie and Lauren Willis turned sour when an unexpected guest crashed the gate: renowned chef Gordon Ramsay, who just so happened to be on the same venue as the wedding to film his upcoming show Future Food Stars.

The miserable miscommunication took place last month at a beach ceremony in Lust Glaze beach in Cornwall, England. Couple Charlie and Lauren were set to tie the knot when Gordon and his television crew took over the beach location, leaving Charlie and his wife fuming and “feeling like extras,” per UK news outlet The Sun.

“The whole thing was a complete kitchen nightmare,” said Charlie, who claimed that they have shelled out £1,300 (about P90,000) to seal off the entire site for their ceremony. “We had both worked so hard to save for that day and we felt like extras on a game show.”

The couple also paid for a gourmet dinner for six people but was surprised to find out that Ramsay’s crew had completely taken over the kitchen. As a result, guests of the newlywed ended up getting served dinner which, to them, was “cheap and nasty.”

Following the mishap, management of the Lusty Glaze resort issued a clarification that while the circumstance was “very unusual,” the wedding rites had not reserved the beach entirely and exclusively, which means Ramsay and company were allowed to continue with production.

Nonetheless, the Catey Award-winning chef caught wind of the matter on Twitter and was kind enough to offer the couple an exclusive dinner at Gordon’s own Savoy Grill in London, on the house.

Sharon Power, a producer at Studio Ramsay, also sent out a letter to the duo disclosing their regrets for the disastrous turn of events, and even went ahead and paid for the pair’s special day.

“I am writing to apologize for the upset our filming caused you on your wedding day at Lusty Glaze beach,” Powers’ letter read. “I am mortified that we affected your special day and I can assure you that it was never our intention to upset you or your guests.”

“As you are aware, we have now paid for your wedding in full, which I hope goes some way towards making amends and acknowledging how sorry I am that your special day was affected, albeit unintentionally, by us.”

A representative of Ramsay also reported to Daily Mail that they didn’t gatecrash the event since Studio Ramsay were already booked to film on the beach on that very same day.

Future Food Stars, Ramsay’s upcoming show, will see 12 British chefs go head-to-head to impress Gordon and win his investment for their future food business in a competition that’s akin to The Apprentice.
