Shed that quarantine hair as summer rolls around the corner by donating your locks! Makati Medical Center is currently accepting hair donations for cancer patients in the MakatiMed Cancer Center.
This is the perfect time to get rid of the hair that you’ve grown after months in quarantine.
But don’t be too quick to donate just yet. There are certain requirements you must meet before you’re able to give away those long tresses.
Donated hair must be at least 9 inches long and must NOT be chemically-treated (that means no rebonded, permed, or bleached hair). They accept all hair types, even natural and wavy hair.
The hair should also be cut while it’s in a ponytail and should be neatly placed in a ziplock or resealable plastic bag. Don’t forget to write down your full name, contact number and email address as well.
Though, Makati Med is not the only place you can give your quarantine hair to. Other charities and organizations have initiatives that let you donate all the same.
Kythe-Ateneo, a student-run organization that specifically works with pediatric patients, holds year-long donation drives like Wings2Give that turns your hair into wigs for such patients.
They are partnered with Hair for Hope, which is the charity unit of HEADS by Volu-med Salon. Hair for Hope also collects hair donations to give to health centers like Makati Med and Asian Hospital and Medical Center.
Strand Up for Cancer is another initiative that collects and donates hair to less fortunate women who suffer from long-term hair loss. They are sponsored by the Manila Downtown YMCA and are also a strong proponent of cancer awareness.
Each organization has their own rules and guidelines, so be sure to check before sending in your hair.
