Was the Miss Universe winner’s iconic blue gown from the 2015 pageant really just an imitation?

Over the weekend, social media fell into a stir following a now-viral post from an anonymous account from Indonesia comparing two photos: one is of Miss Universe 2015 winner Pia Wurtzbach in her cobalt blue gown designed by Albert Andrada, and the other is of American actress Keke Palmer wearing a similar blue gown at the 2014 Emmy Awards.

The side-by-side photos also threw a subtle shade by stressing that Wurtzbach drew “too much inspiration” from Palmer for her pageant outfit.

The controversial claim was enough to put it on Pia’s radar and to even compelled her to reply. Her comeback? A single winking emoji. In another comment, she wrote down the hashtags “#WINNER #PHILIPPINES #POWERHOUSE” which was more than enough to say that she wasn’t bothered.

Then, a thread of replies under Pia’s initial comment came pouring in, mostly from Indonesian citizens apologizing to the beauty queen for the post’s alleged “sour graping.”

Wurtzbach won the Miss Universe crown back in 2015 in controversial fashion, making her the third Filipina to win the prestigious pageant after Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran’s victory in 1969 and 1973, respectively.
