Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you may be aware that we have all been liberated a.k.a the use of face shields is not mandatory for areas under Alert Levels 4, 3 and 2 anymore.
Netizens all over the country have been rejoicing about the news, making the hashtag #FaceShieldNoMore trend after the announcement was made. Now that people are liberated by this controversial contraption, one question remains: what do we do with our face shields now?
If you’re concerned about the environmental waste, worry not as you can donate your old face shields to The Plastic Flamingo (Plaf). This local profit social enterprise and recycling studio would be more than happy to take in your face shield alongside other plastic products to be converted into sustainable construction materials for new schools, housing, and shelters.
You can’t just donate your plastic face shields though. The Plaf will only accept face shields as long as they’ve been air-dried for 2 weeks, without any residue. What this means is that you gotta clean up your face shield with soap and water and let it dry for at least two weeks, to ensure that they’re sanitized and ready for upcycling.
Plus, they only accept plastic-made face shields, so it’s best you keep your acrylic ones at home in the meantime. Aside from your old plastic face shields, there are the items that the Plaf accept as well:
- Plastic packagings from online shopping stores
- Plastic Bags
- Plastic Egg Trays
- Bubble wraps
- PET bottles
- Lotion bottles
- Single-use sachet packs
- Plastic Tupperware
