Get ready to go on your sorely-missed photo walks and city tours because Intramuros has finally reopened!

The announcement was made last Wednesday by Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat following the declared easing of quarantine restrictions set for parks, plazas, amusement areas, museums, and heritage sites. Romulo-Puyat also serves as the Chairperson of the Intramuros Administration’s Board of Administrators.

But the entirety of the Walled City isn’t yet ready to welcome everyone yet, though. Following the announcement, the Intramuros Administration was keen to clarify that only three tourist sites would accommodate guests: Fort SantiagoCasa Manila Museum, and Baluarte de San Diego. The Museo ni Rizal, Asean Gardens, and the Intramuros Dungeons will remain shuttered until further notice.

Much to the delight of bookworms, the administration also announced that The Book Stop Project within Plaza Roma in Intramuros is also back in business.

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism also flaunted the revamped look of the timeless Casa Manila in Intramuros. Shot by architect Anton Mendoza who was tasked to rehabilitate the site, the photos reveal a refreshed, gleaming look of the historical building.

Make sure to leave enough space in your camera’s memory, because Intramuros is inviting guests to take leisure photos of the park. Non-commercial photo shoots are also allowed upon application. Once approved, photographers will be allowed access to beautiful sites such as the Casa Manila Patio, Plaza Moriones, the Puerta Real Gardens, and the San Diego Gardens.

Casa Manila Museum and Baluarte de San Diego are open from 8AM to 5PM, while Fort Santiago is open from 12NN to 8PM. The entrance fee to these sites is at P75 per head and can be paid with cash, Beep, or PayMaya.

As with every other place open to the public, Intramuros enjoins its visitors to comply with minimum health protocols set by the government. Both Fort Santiago and Baluarte de San Diego shall only allow at most 100 persons at a time, while Casa Manila Museum shall have a cap of 15 persons at a time. Guests are also screened for COVID-19 symptoms at the entrances and are required to undergo thermal scanning and mandatory sanitizing before entering any structure.
