Kiefer Ravena Is The First Filipino Athlete To Sign With The Jordan Brand

Nike‘s Jordan Brand welcomed the “Phenom” Kiefer Ravena as the newest member of their family. This endorsement deal makes Kiefer the first Filipino athlete to sign with the popular sportswear brand.

“Being in the same family as [Michael Jordan] and so many other names synonymous with greatness–I want to be a part of that. Being in the Jordan Brand family motivates me because I know I’m joining something special,” he said.

Jumpman Family

Kiefer shared about this new partnership with a photo of himself clad in a shirt with the iconic Jumpman logo. “I’m very fortunate to have a great support system. My parents, my friends, my teammates and the fans. In basketball, that’s all you need. Thank you [the Jordan Brand], I’m thankful for the opportunity to be the first Filipino joining the Jumpman Family,” he said.

In an interview posted on the Jordan Brand’s website, Kiefer said that he still finds it hard to believe that he’s now part of the Jumpman roster that includes NBA stars like Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, and Chris Paul of the Phoenix Suns, among others. “I feel like I’ve been welcomed with open arms. I still can’t believe it… It’s amazing to be part of this incredible team of athletes.”

Last year, Kiefer was one of the first people to get a pair of the super-limited Air Jordan IV “Manila” shoes. He was also spotted wearing his pair during the opening of the brand’s first Southeast Asian and Philippine store in BGC. “After wearing them during the opening of the Manila store, it was hard to wear them again. I keep them in an acrylic case in a safe… Having one of the 150 pairs, and being one of the first to wear them, is really special for me,” he said.

For the Philippines

The NLEX Road Warriors guard said that he’s always proud to represent the country in his games. “It’s an honor to play for my country. It never feels like an obligation, it’s truly a privilege. Every time I get the chance to play for the Philippines, I suit up. I never waste the opportunity.”

Last year, Kiefer was appointed as the team captain of the Gilas Pilipinas for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Qatar. “It feels really great to lead a bunch of young, talented guys. I want to put them in positions that they’ll thrive in. I learned the ropes from the players who came before me, too,” he said.

Kiefer also expressed his hopes that the world will get to see more of Philippine basketball. He said, “I’d like the world to know that Filipino basketball is all about heart. We’ve always been underdogs. I want to bring back the time when people looked to Philippine basketball on the international stage–the glory days of Philippine basketball. Hopefully, we will be given a chance to do so.”
