With all the distressing news everyone faces each day, it wouldn’t hurt to be more compassionate towards others. To celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17, do small things that could make someone’s day. They’ll have something to smile about and it will leave you feeling good about yourself.
Be Thankful
In the age of instant gratification, a lot more things are being taken for granted. Practice saying thank you even when someone does you the smallest favor. These words are often forgotten but it shows appreciation and empathy for others.
Give Compliments
Actions may speak louder than words, but it’s still uplifting to receive a compliment or words of affirmation. Saying “I love you” to your partner or telling your buddy they’re doing a great job are some examples. Hate speech is not welcome online or in real life.
Leave a Tip
Whether you’re dining in, taking your food to-go, or having something delivered, leave a tip if you have the means to. The standard amount is usually 10% of the total of your order, but feel free to increase the tip if you feel their service went beyond your expectations.
Send a Care Package
Bake some goodies to be delivered to a friend or send your family a care package. This is an easy and cost-effective way to make someone feel special. Include a handwritten note to add a sentimental touch. At the very least, shoot a text to let them know you’re thinking of them and wish them well.
Check up on People
With quarantine restrictions still in place, people may feel lonelier than usual. Check up on a loved one or a colleague and ask them how their day’s going because you never know what they’re going through behind the scenes. Simply be an attentive listener or see if there might be something you could help them with to lighten their load.
Imagine how much better the world would be if being kind was the default. A thoughtful gesture could significantly impact someone’s day without us realizing it.
