Where to Look When You Need Freelance and Remote Work

It goes without saying: Finding a day job now is extremely difficult for most people. With the job market getting more competitive, that’s been the case for a while now. Then came COVID-19 and the recession to make things worse.

Fortunately, there are tons of job search sites out there, but here’s where you can go specifically when these uncertain times require you to take up a few extra projects or a remote job.

We Work Remotely

As the name suggests, jobs posted here are for remote positions, so you won’t need to use a bunch of search filters to find one you can do from the safety of your own home. From my experience, the platform mostly has full-time job opportunities from around the world. So, if you’re looking for the usual 8-hour workday, this site might just be the one for you.

Indeed

This may be a site for all kinds of jobs, but in the times I’ve used it, I’ve noticed that they have a lot of remote and project-based work on the platform. Pages of legit listings from all over the world always show up when I type in “remote” or “freelance” along with the job title when searching for work. Most postings even have an easy apply option that comes in handy when you find yourself applying for the 20th position or gig for that day.

Upwork

I heard about this freelancing site before I even entered the workforce because it’s one of the better-known platforms out there. I’ve found everything from long-term  writing projects that took months to tasks that took me an hour or two to complete on the site. It can be challenging to get your profile approved, but if you’re looking for a good source of freelance gigs, it’s worth a try.

Facebook Groups for Freelancers

This can be a bit tricky since it might take a while until you find a group that works for you. In my experience though, I’ve gotten tons of project-based opportunities in Facebook groups dedicated to freelancers and people looking for online work. Many groups don’t just have postings either; you can usually find threads where people share their advice and experiences when it comes to freelancing too.

A couple groups you can check out are: Independent Creative & Advertising Professionals and Freelance Writers Philippines.

Websites of Companies You Love

A mistake I’m guilty of when I started job searching was just typing in a position on a job-hunting site’s search bar and hoping a company I like has freelance or remote opportunities. Try going directly to sites of companies you love since not all employers post listings on job sites or actively advertise openings, especially when it’s for a project-based gig. Think of companies that have caught your eye, whether it’s a makeup brand you love or an app you use, and don’t be scared to shoot your shot on their career pages!
