Apparently, they were only put on “mute,” though that doesn’t make the toxicity any less harmful.

If you’re partaking in this NFT-based play-to-earn online video game called Axie Infinity, then chances are, you’re also aware of how the Philippine channel were reportedly banned from the game’s Discord server due to “uncontrollable constant spam, toxicity, threats, and hateful comments made by Filipinos,” per When In Manila Plays.

As it turns out, the news that the game has banned Filipinos from the server is less of a fact and more of a way to estrange local users and discredit the game.

According to a quote reported by Manila Bulletin, Yield Guild Games co-founder and Axie Infinity community member Gabby Dizon said that the reported “ban” was only a “time-out” so that certain players can sort themselves out.

“Filipino players were being abusive on the Discord channel and it was closed. They’re not banned from playing the game nor talking elsewhere. It’s just a time-out since certain players were being very toxic and abusive,” Dizon said per Manila Bulletin. “The Philippines channel is still there but is on lockdown for the time being except for moderators. It doesn’t affect anybody’s ability to actually access the game.”

While Axie Infinity’s game developers have yet to address the issue within its community, its recent clarificatory statement posted on their Twitter page on Saturday did take on the issue of users tending to “lash out.”

“It’s been an intense week for the Axie nation and we want to provide some clarity and transparency around the server issues and how we are dealing with them,” its caption read. It then included in its tweet a photo summarizing all the reasons its servers are down.

“If you find yourself becoming frustrated and want to lash out, please take a deep breath and remember that Axie Infinity is still in alpha state,” the developers explained. “It pains us to see so many of our beloved community members having issues. We are working very hard. We will get it done.”

Axie Infinity is a NFT-based play-to-earn online video game developed by Vietnamese studio by Sky Mavis, which utilizes Ethereum-based cryptocurrency AXS (Axie Infinity Shards) and SLP (Smooth Love Potion). It’s a trading and battling game that allows players to collect, breed, raise, battle, and trade creatures known as “axies”, which are digitized as NFTs or “non-fungible tokens,” or unique digital assets. Currently it’s the most expensive NFTs collection with more than $42 million in sales in June 2021.
