Launched in collaboration with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) – Philippines, the Philippine Wildlife Collection showcases three 12-ounce ceramic mugs and matching stuffed Bearista Bears depicting the Philippines’ most endangered species: the Tamaraw, the Negros Bleeding-Heart Bird, and the Palawan Forest Turtle

Here’s how you can help: for every purchase of a mug or a Bearista Bear from the collection between February 23 to April 19, Starbucks will donate P50 to the WWF-Philippines’ conservation initiative

Here are the animals you’d be lending a helping hand to.

Tamaraw

Tamaraw

Endemic to the province of Mindoro, the tamaraw is listed as critically endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The latest count of the Biodiversity Management Bureau of the environment ministry in 2020 posts about 480 tomorrows left in the wild.

The emerald green ceramic mug features the tamaraw, and the Bearista Bear dons the dark fur and the backward-facing horns of the tamaraw.

Negros Bleeding-Heart Bird

Negros Bleeding Heart Bird

The Negros Bleeding-Heart Bird of Negros and Panay is a species of pigeon famous for its vivid red or orange patch of plumage resembling a puncture wound near the bird’s breast. According to the IUCN in 2018, there are as few as 70 and no more than 400 of these elusive birds in the wild.

The distinct heart-shaped patch is represented in the seafoam-colored ceramic mug, while the Bearista Bear wears a suit patterned after the bird’s blue coat and dark talons.

Palawan Forest Turtle

Turtle

Lastly, the Palawan Forest Turtle is among the 25 most endangered species of turtle in the world. In 2018, the Palawan Freshwater Turtle Conservation Program (PFTCP) of the Katala Foundation, Inc. estimated that there are about 10,000 of these turtles left scattered in and around the island of Palawan.

The bright-brown mug features a waving Palawan Forest Turtle, while the Bearista Bear costume captures the white stripe found around the endangered turtle’s neck.

All the ceramic mugs from the Philippine Wildlife Collection are priced at P795, while the cute Bearista Bears can be bought for P1,595. These are available at Starbucks branches nationwide on their flagship store in Lazada
