Beginner Streaming Tips for Aspiring Livestreamers

Along with cycling and breadmaking, livestreaming has become one of the hottest quarantine hobbies this past year. We saw the rise of communication apps like Discord and Twitch, along with an intense influx of amateur gamers and livestreamers looking to make it big in the online world.

While the livestreaming concept is not new, the popularity of livestreaming, and e-sports specifically, is eyebrow-raising; between 2019 and 2021 (as of now), the e-sports audience grew from almost 400 million up to 474 million. It’s also expected that the industry will reach about $1.1 billion in revenue by the end of this year.

Because there’s a lot of money in the game, many have turned to livestreaming to try and make a living. If you’re one of these people, here’s what you need to know:

The field is very saturated; be different

Everyone and their mom either watches a stream or is a streamer themselves. This can mean that the field is saturated with similar concepts and ideas, making it hard for new streamers to stand out. As such, it’s important to be different — but don’t try so hard! Being different doesn’t mean you have to pretend you’re someone you’re not. If you find all the unique qualities within yourself and try to translate it onto the screen, you’re already ahead of the others.

You need to prepare

note taking

Before you start your Twitch stream, it’d do you some good to sit down and write down a couple of thoughts and ideas. Organizing the message that you want to put out can help you sound more coherent and put together. You’ll never run out of things to say (saving you from those awkward long pauses!) and will always be on track while you’re live. Believe it or not, some viewers appreciate streamers with structure.

Invest in equipment when possible

Listen, it’s definitely tempting to buy the best PC right away. Better equipment may mean better gameplay, and we’re not arguing with that. However, it’s good to be able to discern which equipment is worth investing in. Work hard, save money, and make sure the gadgets and parts that you order are worth your effort.

Don’t be shy

This one’s easier said than done. Streamers need viewers, and to get viewers, you’re gonna have to promote yourself. Though it sounds daunting, the act of gaining enough confidence to post your own stream and share it with others can be character-building. Don’t be shy and think of it more as a stairway to success.

Enjoy your stream

Not everyone can get famous right away. It actually takes a while for streamers to build up a regular viewership, improve in gaming skill, and establish their own one-of-a-kind presence. And there’s nothing wrong with that! Stressing too much over the little things can turn your passion into a bust. Play to have fun and enjoy your journey to becoming a livestreamer. Whether you make it or not, at least you had fun!
