Since the ’80s, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid has been a fixture in the local showbiz scene not only because of her powerful singing voice but also her formidable acting chops. Decades later, the 50-year old singer-actress is still going strong.
With decades of experience come numerous unforgettable moments and Velasquez recently got candid about her encounter with a famous 90’s boyband member. According to Philippine Daily Inquirer, Velasquez admitted she wasn’t impressed with the attitude of 98 Degrees’ frontman Nick Lachey during her appearance at the online show Brightwin Ninangs.
“Iyang si Nick Lachey, nuknukan ng yabang. Nuknukan ng yabang! (Nick Lachey has the biggest ego. The most huge ego!)” she exclaimed. Velasquez then revealed that she found Lachey very rude, saying, “Biruin mo umpisa pa lang, nagmamagaling! Baklang ito. Humanda ka sa akin, hindi ka na maririnig (Can you believe that from the start, he was showing off! This guy. You better prepare yourself, you will not be heard.)”
Nick Lachey was said to be the only bad egg among 98 Degrees. In fact, Velasquez vouched that everyone else was cool and even a little bit flirty with her. Intrigued by how that encounter played out, netizens dug out an old clip of Velasquez singing “The Hardest Thing” with the band from a 1999 episode of GMA Network’s former variety show SOP. Watch the clip below to watch how Asia’s songbird upstaged Lachey.
True enough, she did sing over Lachey’s part during their song number. In case you want to entertain yourself with Velasquez’s incredible singing, she is set to have a virtual concert called Freedom on February 28. Tickets are being sold for P1,200 at ktx.ph, TFC IPTV and iWantTFC.
